Before Day & Leaf I Didn’t Care About Skincare – Now I Get It
Before I started work experience at Day & Leaf, I didn’t think skincare was that deep. I used whatever soap was near the sink and called it a day. But spending time behind the scenes of a skincare brand opened my eyes, especially when I realised half the things I was doing were actually making my skin worse.
This week I helped with product research, wrote social media posts, and learned loads about skin. Now I get why so many people are into skincare and I’ve started a routine myself.
If you’re a teen like me and want clearer skin but don’t know where to start, here’s what I’ve learned.
Teen Skin Needs Simpler Stuff
Teen skin is different. It’s oily one day, dry the next, and randomly breaks out for no reason. You don’t need fancy 10-step routines or expensive products. You just need a few simple things that are gentle, natural, and made for your skin type.
That’s what Day & Leaf is all about: clean, vegan skincare that’s actually kind to your skin. Here’s the beginner routine I helped write about this week (and started using myself).
The 3-Step Routine That’s Working for Me
1. Calm & Clean Dewy Oil-Gel Cleanser
This cleanser changes texture while you use it, which is pretty cool. It starts off as a gel, turns into oil on your face, and rinses off like milk. It removes oil, sweat and dirt without making your skin feel dry or tight.
Good for: oily skin, breakouts, sensitive skin
2. Ginkgo Revive Gel Booster
I’d never used anything like this before. It’s a lightweight gel that calms your skin after washing your face. It helps with redness and hydrates your skin without making it greasy.
Good for: calming irritated skin, hydration, stressed-out skin
3. Niacinamide Moisture Shield
This moisturiser is probably my favourite. It sinks in fast, doesn’t leave you shiny, and helps with oily areas and spots. Niacinamide is great for evening out skin tone and making pores look smaller too.
Good for: oily T-zones, breakouts, uneven skin tone
My New Skincare Routine
• Cleanse morning and night
• Use the Ginkgo Revive Gel Booster after cleansing
• Finish with Niacinamide Moisture Shield moisturiser
Takes about two minutes and it actually works. My skin already feels less greasy, and the little bumps on my forehead are starting to go down.
What Surprised Me the Most
• Moisturiser doesn’t make your face oily (as long as it’s the right one)
• Good skincare isn’t supposed to burn or sting
• You don’t need loads of products
• Consistency matters more than anything else
• Natural ingredients work better when you give them time
Why I’d Recommend Day & Leaf
After spending a week working with the team, I realised Day & Leaf isn’t just another skincare brand. Everything is made with sensitive skin in mind. The products are vegan, dermatologically tested, and don’t have any weird harsh stuff that can mess up your skin.
If you’re a teen who wants to start skincare but doesn’t know where to begin, I’d say this routine is a solid first step.
